About

Evan Grainger was born in Pasadena, California in 1989 and moved to Jackson, Wyoming in 2001. As a teenager he began doing work for his father, Jeff Grainger, on original and reproduction Arts & Crafts/Greene & Greene furniture and lighting. Projects included woodwork, metalwork, welding, and stained glass work. Through the years, he found himself increasingly drawn to glasswork. Evan was also working at the Center for the Arts in Jackson, WY as lighting designer for concerts and other events.

Drawing from his 15 experience in the field, Evan began working on his own sculptural stained glass pieces in the fall of 2019, beginning with the “Order” Bison Skull. This, along with two other pieces, were presented in a small showing in January 2020 at the Rose/Pink Garter Theater in Jackson, WY as the beginnings of the Fragile West series. Produced in a town seen as quintessentially “Western”, the work and series title derive themselves from both the fragile nature of the medium, and the ever increasing fragility of the Western United States ecosystem. This is an ongoing series.

The Fragile Anatomy series began with the “Hearts of Glass - Phase 1” pieces, in January 2020. It is built in the same vein as the Fragile West series, playing with the ideas of the fragility of the body. This is an ongoing series.

In 2021 Evan started Grainger Glass Studio in order to continue to create his custom, one of a kind, functional artwork. Functionality of the pieces is an important part of the process; building something that will draw attention in any space at any time, while adding an extra dimension through illumination. His background building lighting fixtures for his father added greatly to this aspect of his own work.

In 2021, he began working on the Bison Bolo as a way to bring his art to a wider audience on a smaller scale. The Bolo work has since expanded into other styles.

At the end of 2021 Evan designed and created the cover art of the Jackson Hole Snowboarder Magazine.

Evan currently lives and works in Jackson, WY.
